Apply

We take great pleasure in meeting kids who love math and the families who nurture them.

Our admissions process is designed to help families and the school get to know each other.

Our application window for the 2024–25 school year is now closed. We enjoyed meeting you at our virtual info sessions! Many thanks to those of you who completed an application.

For queries, you can contact us at admissions@proofschool.org.

Who should apply?

Our students genuinely love math, learning across the curriculum, and working with like-minded peers.

They are persistent with projects and problems that are challenging and inspiring. They are demonstrably eager to engage in both mathematics and other areas, from art to laboratory sciences to history and literature. Our students are curious and kind, and they genuinely enjoy collaborating with others.

Our students relish the opportunity to spend two hours on math in school every day. Our math curriculum ranges from courses accessible to any sixth grader enthusiastic about math to courses that would be challenging even for an undergraduate math major. All classes stress depth and investigation over speed and acceleration.

We accept applications for entry into 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grades, and particularly encourage applications from students of diverse backgrounds. Students should be at least 11 years old by August 31 of the year they enter Proof School.

We strive to put Proof School within financial reach for every admitted student.

We have a robust financial assistance program to meet calculated need.

This year, our families received financial assistance that covers up to 99.2% of tuition. Our goal is to help every qualifying, admitted student to be able to enroll at Proof School. We do not offer merit-based scholarships, and there is no fee to apply to Proof School.

We continue to conduct need-blind admissions, and we remain committed to fully meeting demonstrated financial need for all enrolled families.

Tuition is set annually by the Board of Directors in the spring, and reflects our investment in world-class faculty. Proof School is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). We use data submitted by families to the NAIS School and Student Services (SSS) as a baseline for determining assistance awards.

Middle School Tuition, 2023–24

$46,400

High School Tuition, 2023–24

$51,540

Detailed information about financial assistance is on the application portal.

The Equal Opportunity Fund offers comprehensive support to qualifying families.

We recognize that full participation in Proof School goes beyond the classroom.

For families with high financial need, the Equal Opportunity Fund holistically supports the important work students do and the lives they lead. The fund offers families the following kinds of support each year they qualify:

  • Over 99% tuition support, with most families paying $20–$35 per month in tuition

  • Daily transit fare between home and school

  • Lunch provided at school

  • “Proofwear” such as hoodies and t-shirts

  • A MacBook Air for use at both school and home

  • Full coverage of typical SAT, AP, and college application fees

  • Full coverage of fees for class trips and for fee-charging extracurriculars and school life activities

  • A project fund for high school students to pursue individual interests

Qualifying families generally make less than 80% of San Francisco’s Area Median Income and have comparable assets.

Proof School is an equal opportunity educational institution, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for admissions without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, national origin, age, mental or physical disability, military or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
